Nomos Autobahn - Live Review Baselworld 2018
Nomos surprised in Baselworld 2018 with a totally new model: the Autobahn (or highway in English). This new line is defined as "Distinct and decisive, racing ahead of the pack".
Now you all might be used to the long delays between the announcement of a new watch at Baselworld and the release to the market (For instance the Omega trilogy appeared only in November so 9 months wait!) but not with Nomos.
The online retailer Mr Porter launched the Nomos Autobahn the same day it was announced in Basel and as a result of this ??ber fast launch we now have one of the firsts Nomos Autobahn to hit the market. In case you wonder yes we will be visiting Baselworld wearing a watch announced there!

The dial has a very special finish curved to mimic the car dashboard gauge. The minutes hand red tip enhances visibility and fits well within the automotive theme
The Nomos autobahn is powered by the new in-house DUW 6101 caliber that allows for a quick set of the data in both directions. It is a new automatic movement that also features the swing system escapement. In our view one of the strengths of nomos watches is the in-house movements and in this case the bi-directional date set is a very practical feature.
The midnight blue colour will reveal different shades depending on the light. The central track is filled with super luminova that should also be very useful in the dark.
At 41mm this watch wears a bit larger but still very contemporary and very comfortable as a daily wearer. With a date function and 100Mt water resistance can double as a sporty/week end watch too.
The strap is nylon but surprisingly comfortable and utilitarian at the same time. It obviously works well with the water resistance of the watch (I always wondering why some watches offer a good water resistance yet only come with a crocodile or leather strap!)
In conclusion we feel that this watch represents something distinct in the Nomos line.
The Nomos Autobahn is a great modern watch with a unique look. It can work very well in business, in the boardroom but also on the week-end and by the pool so it is very versatile. It is also available in two additional colours on retailers worldwide and online
